Jennifer Lawrence has not been shy about talking politics in the past, especially when it came to slamming Donald Trump. But now, she's questioning that decision.
āI donāt really know if I should,ā Lawrence told *The New York Times* on the outletās *The Interview* podcast when asked how she feels about speaking out now. āDuring the first Trump administration, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as weāve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for. So then what am I doing? Iām just sharing my opinion on something thatās going to add fuel to a fire thatās ripping the country apart."
When Trump first announced his candidacy in 2015, Lawrence was not afraid to voice her political concerns publicly. For instance, Lawrence told EW that year, āIf Donald Trump becomes president, that will be the end of the world. I genuinely believe that reality television has reached the ultimate place where now even things like this might just be for entertainment.ā
And after Trump won, Lawrence wrote an essay for Broadly. āDo not let this defeat you ā let this enrage you!ā she wrote at the time. āLet it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didnāt have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of color, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman ā donāt be afraid, be loud!ā

Now, she told the *Times* that, at 35 and a lot more experienced in Hollywood, she is finding herself "in a complicated recalibration because Iām also an artist," she explained. "I donāt want to start turning people off to films and to art that could change consciousness or change the world because they donāt like my political opinions," she added. "I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what Iām doing. And if I canāt say something thatās going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I donāt want to be a part of the problem. I donāt want to make the problem worse."
When the outlet asked the Oscar winner if she regrets how she "dealt with things before," Lawrence admitted, "Probably? I regret everything Iāve ever done or said. Iām going to take the zip drives out of all of these cameras when I leave. The second term feels different. Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And thatās what we chose."
