They conquered TV with *The Muppet Show*. They slayed in cinemas with *The Muppet Movie*. They dominated holiday music charts with *John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together. *They even ventured into video games (*Muppets Party Cruise*, anyone?) and publishing (*Muppet Magazine*, RIP). But there is one pop culture stage on which the Muppets have never dared to venture… until now. THE ACTUAL STAGE!
It's curious seeing as how *The Muppet Show* was staged in a theater that the Muppets themselves have never performed their brand of family-friendly hilarity on the Great White Way. But all that is finally changing as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and other felt friends are making their long-awaited Broadway debut, joining illusionist Rob Lake on stage at the Broadhurst Theatre for *Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests the Muppets*. And we’ve got your exclusive first look photos of the production.

The show, which is now in previews and opens officially on Nov. 11, includes Lake pulling off his signature large-scale illusions (teases of which can be seen in the photos here), along with scenes featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy and the gang. While magicians are known for making things disappear, Lake has pulled off the ultimate stunt by flipping the script and making the fan-favorite Muppets *appear* for the first time instead, and as the illusionist tells **, the teaming up is a perfect marriage.
“The Muppets and I both live in that space between imagination and storytelling,” says Lake. “When they appear onstage, everyone becomes a child again — that’s real magic.”

But even more remarkable than this combo platter performance is the fact it took this long for the Muppets to make it to the theater mecca of the world. Credit goes to producer Joe Quenqua for sealing the deal.
“The idea of bringing The Muppets to Broadway has been around for 50 years,” Quenqua tells EW. “That we are the ones who finally have the honor of making that dream come true is truly humbling.”

And now we have our official first look at that dream in the photos above. Check out Lake hanging out on the Manhattan stage with Kermit, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal, and Rowlf the Dog in a very *Muppets Take Manhattan*-esque convertable taxi. Also bear witness to the miraculous sight of Lake straight-up levitating someone. And what exactly is the master illusionist up to with all those classic posters celebrating magicians of the past like P.T. Selbit, Horace Goldin, and Carter the Great? Is it a mere tribute or something more… magical?!?
*Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests the Muppets* will be performing at the Broadhurst Theatre through Jan. 18.
