Padma Lakshmi is opening up about raising a teenager.
The former Top Chef host, 55, spoke with PEOPLE about her new campaign with Soma pajamas and was asked about how it's been parenting her daughter, Krishna, 15, now that she's in her teenage years. Lakshmi explains that while they have a "good relationship," there has been some "turbulence" with her daughter.
"I mean, the truth is, teens are changing and evolving, their personality is literally day-to-day," Lakshmi says. "And so she'll go to her dad's and come back, and I'm like, 'You're a different person.'"

"Yesterday we were hanging out, and I was actually teasing her," she continues. "I said, 'Remember two years ago when you said this thing, and you were really frustrated about it? And we had so many conversations, and I just said, 'Wait, you'll thank me later, you'll see what I mean.' And you were just fighting me. And look, today!'"
"And she laughed and she goes, 'Yeah, you don't have to throw that in my face,' " adds Lakshmi.
However, the proud mom says that she knows she's not always right, and that she just wants to see her daughter thrive.
"I'm not always right, but I have been there before, so I don't have any interest except her flourishing and her well-being," she says. "I mean, I remember being a teen, and the last thing you want to do is listen to your parents."
"But I mean, we have a good relationship. It's not without its turbulence, but we're very frank with each other, and we have a good, open relationship, which I hope continues."

This past September, Lakshmi and her daughter Krishna spoke with Vogue India about their tight-knit relationship and their ambitions. The teen shared her aspirations as a budding musician and actor, adding that she wants to be "taken seriously" and known for something outside of her mom.
“I want to be taken seriously," the teenager told the outlet. "I would like to do something that’s centered around who I am right now, not who I am as Littlehands. My hands — they aren’t so little anymore.”
This past February, Lakshmi shared a tribute on Instagram celebrating her daughter Krishna's 15th birthday. In the post, she included a series of videos and photos throughout the years, including a home video of them cooking together and a snap of them at a museum.
The proud mom also shared a picture of Krishna during one of her earlier birthdays, as she smiled at Lakshmi with a small circular cake that read "Happy Birthday Krishna" in front of her, and a more recent photo of her cutting into her own birthday cake.
"Littlehands is getting bigger!!! 15!!!!!!!!," she wrote in the caption. "I can’t believe it. Every day of the last 15 years has been an adventure. Happy birthday Krishna Thea. I love you once, I love you twice, I love you more than beans and rice. ❤️❤️❤️."
