Chaz Bono and Shara Blue Mathes are honeymooning in Hawaii after their March 8 wedding in Los Angeles
Mathes posted a photo from their romantic getaway on Instagram on April 1
The couple first met as teenagers but reconnected decades later and began dating in January 2017

Mathes shared a glimpse into the newlyweds' island getaway by posting the first photo from their romantic trip on Instagram on Wednesday, April 1.
"The Rainbow’s end 🌈🌴🌺🦜 #honeymoon #brideandgroom," she wrote alongside a photo of the pair standing side by side on a balcony with the blue ocean and towering palm trees behind them.

In the dreamy shot, the couple, both 57, softly smiled. Bono, who is Cher's son with the late Sonny Bono, wore a black flat cap, black T-shirt and jeans. Meanwhile, Mathes wore a tropical, colorful button-up short-sleeved top and jeans.
Their wedding planner, Natalie Sofer, commented, "Have the best time darlings."

Bono and Mathes first met as teenagers at Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, but they didn't start dating until decades later in January 2017. PEOPLE exclusively revealed that the couple said "I do" at The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 8.
"I first met Shara more than 40 years ago when we were just teenagers," Chaz told PEOPLE at the time. "I think it’s safe to say that not many grooms ultimately end up marrying the very first girl they ever kissed so many years later."

He continued, "She makes me feel complete knowing she will always be there beside me as partner, my best friend, and the love of my life. No matter what life brings us, we will always be safer and stronger together … and we are home."

Reflecting on her wedding day on Instagram on Saturday, March 14, Mathes wrote in part, "This past weekend I stepped into a real live Fairytale and married my longtime sweetheart! It was the happiest, most magical wedding a bride could dream of. I can’t thank my family and my tremendous circle of friends enough! Friends becoming friends with my friends is such a gift to witness. I’m so in love with what we created."
