*Landman*'s been a gusher for Paramount+, pulling in upwards of 35 million global streaming views for the streamer since its 2024 debut.****That shouldn't come as much of a surprise, though, given that the drama's co-creator is Taylor Sheridan, the celebrated writer and producer known for shows such as *Yellowstone*, its prequels *1883 *and *1923*, and *Mayor of Kingstown*.

*Landman* stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a savvy landman managing an oil patch for tycoon Monty Miller (Jon Hamm). Christian Wallace, who co-created the series with Sheridan, told * *that it stands out from predecessors like *Dallas* by exploring "both the working class and the white-collar world" of the oil industry.

*Landman*'s season 1 finale found Tommy being put in charge of M-Tex Oil since Monty is at death's door due to a faulty ticker. Monty's wife, Cami (Demi Moore), meanwhile, is also poised to be a bigger part of the business, with Tommy appointing her to the board.

While working with Cami to close a lucrative "farm-out deal," Tommy is abducted by Galino drug cartel member Jimenez (Alex Meraz). The cartel is incensed over Tommy bringing the National Guard into the region, resulting in the death of one of their own. They torture Tommy as payback.

Tommy is saved, however, by Galino himself (played by Andy Garcia). Galino is unhappy with how Jimenez is running his territory, and thinks Tommy can help the cartel get into the oil business.

The episode ends with Monty flatlining in the hospital as Cami and their daughters cry for him.**

It sure seems like it. It's certainly a surprise, what with the wattage that Emmy-winning *Mad Men* alum Hamm brought to the series.

In a postmortem with TV Insider, Wallace spoke of Monty as if he'd passed. Reflecting on Cami's bigger role in season 2, he said, "I think Demi’s character in this first season was kind of playing a little bit of second fiddle to Monty, at least in his role as the president of M-Tex Oil."

Wallace continued, "He’s the one that’s calling the shots and has to make these big decisions, and so he’s really the one that’s thrust in the fire and is honestly kind of trying to shield his family from the stress that he’s experiencing, which ultimately plays a role in his demise... And so his passing is kind of an incredible opportunity for Cami to play a bigger role in this world."

In a September 2025 interview with EW, Thornton touched on how Tommy's new position at M-Tex will "challenge" him in unexpected ways. "Tommy's kind of a reluctant executive and still acting in his old role too, because he’s the kind of guy who can't really give up what he knows and where he feels the most comfortable." he said.

Thornton went on to describe season 2 as a "slow burn," noting that Sheridan really dove "into the relationships more." Ali Larter, who plays Tommy's chaotic ex-wife and the mother of his children, called it the "heart season," emphasizing its focus on the show's family dynamics.

Is there a trailer for *Landman *season 2?

"I think, at the beginning, [Tommy] really is her guide and anchor," Moore told EW. "In the opening, you really see that I'm kind of a lamb being thrown into the lion's den [and] really having to have a real show of strength. And I think Cami is having to operate a little bit out of the fake it till you make it [mentality]."

Thornton added, "The dynamic is certainly very interesting because he’s essentially telling her, 'Look, you've got to listen to me because you've never done this before.' And her outlook on that is, 'How am I going to learn if you do everything?' That's really how the dynamic starts."**

Also returning? Larter's Angela, who was highlighted in many reviews — including EW's — as being representative of what our critic called the show's "overt sexism."

"Tommy and his male peers are three-dimensional disasters; the women, by contrast, are wholly defined by their sex," reads our review.

Larter, however, has disputed this characterization. "Nobody's putting me in a position that I'm not comfortable being in. I have two children. I've been married for 19 years. I love playing this character," she said.,

She added, "I love that Taylor writes for older women — women in their prime, that were still allowed to be alive! I love that he writes that. I know so many women who are like that. I love that she's able to express that side of herself."
