Ken Jennings found a "90s-era afro pick" that belonged to the late Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek backstage at the popular game show

"Long live the CanFro (Canadian afro)," he joked

Jennings previously roasted some of his outfits from his early days as a contestant on Jeopardy!

Ken Jennings is sharing a relic from Alex Trebek's legendary tenure at Jeopardy!

Jennings, who replaced Trebek as the long-running game show's host after his death in 2020, shared a recent dressing room discovery from decades past.

In a photo shared to Instagram on Tuesday, Feb. 3, the host, 51, holds up a pink hair pick in front of a vanity mirror.

"We don’t offer a Backstage Jeopardy! Tour, but if we did, this would be one of the highlights," he wrote in the caption. "This is, and I’m completely serious here, Alex Trebek’s own ‘90s-era afro pick."

Jennings concluded the post with, "Long live the CanFro (Canadian afro)."

A number of commenters recognized the hair tool.

"My mom had this exact pick for floofing up that 80s perm," one wrote.

"I have that exact pick and I've had it since about 1988. Still use it every day!" shared another.

A third wrote, "That's a classic tool of the 80s. We had a teal one as well."

Last year, Jennings reflected on his least favorite outfit choices during his early days as a contestant on Jeopardy!

“If I’m seeing that right, that is a terrible tie,” Jennings said in a September 2025 Instagram clip watching himself be introduced as a contestant circa 2000 by the late Trebek. “And really, it’s a color of shirt I would never wear.”

Footage showed the 74-game Jeopardy! winner wearing a tan, long-sleeve collared shirt with a colorful neck tie decorated with vintage glass Coke bottle designs.

“I guess if you like Coca-Cola, like, you’re into that outfit. That’s really unfortunate,” he added, before offering a suggestion to his past self.

“I feel like I should maybe be wearing... maybe some sweaters,” he added before moving on to another look, consisted of a brown jacket and light-colored dress shirt, that he deemed slightly better than the one prior. “At least there I’m wearing a jacket.”

In April 2025, Jennings told PEOPLE about how he initially channeled Trebek — who died on Nov. 8, 2020 at 80 years old after being diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in March 2019 — while hosting the popular game show.

“It was very tricky after Alex passed because, of course, we all missed him,” he admitted of taking over for Trebek. “No one had seen anybody else host Jeopardy for nearly 40 years. It was a tricky adjustment, and I didn't want to be there.”

“I wanted Alex — like he was my guy, but luckily I had seen him host enough that I kind of had this internal sense of what would he do here, and that's really the only thing that got me through,” he continued. “And a few years on, I've gotten enough reps that I feel a little more comfortable out there.”
