Jenna Bush Hager is a president's daughter through and through.
The television host and author, daughter of former President George W. Bush, addressed the death of Vice President Dick Cheney, who served alongside her father during the 2001-2009 Bush administration, on the "Today" show Tuesday, Nov. 4. Cheney died on Monday at age 84 from complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, according to a statement from the Cheney family.
"Of course, I think everybody is waking up and thinking about his family," Hager, 43, told her "Today" cohosts during a roundtable segment.
A laconic onetime college dropout who found his place in Washington, Cheney acted as no second-in-command had before — directing the presidential transition, devising policy on energy and leading a concerted administration effort to restore and expand executive authority from what he saw as congressional incursion.

However, Cheney's political prowess was not top of mind for Hager in her emotional remarks.
"When you hear of a politician who passes, there's tons of coverage about what they are like as a politician," Hager said. "But as a daughter of a politician, as a granddaughter of a politician, I just am thinking of his daughters and who they are missing, which is not necessarily a man who casts votes, but rather a man who raised them."
Hager also shared her condolences for Cheney's daughters, Mary and Liz Cheney, adding that she was planning on reaching out to the women "just to send my love, and I know my parents are thinking the very same."
In their family statement, Cheney's family remembered the former vice president as a "great and good man who taught his children and grandchildren to love our country and to live lives of courage, honor, love, kindness and fly fishing."
