Sofia Mattsson announced on Monday, March 30, that she is joining the cast of Days of Our Lives next year
This comes eight months after she exited General Hospital following eight years as Sasha Gilmore on the daytime series
Fans expressed excitement for the news and speculated on what role Mattsson will be stepping into, although no further details have been confirmed
Sofia Mattsson has found a new home in Salem!
Less than a year after leaving her longstanding role on General Hospital, the actress, 34, will be joining the cast of Days of Our Lives in 2027. The news was announced on Monday, March 30, in a joint Instagram post with Mattsson and the official Days account.
“Sofia Mattsson is making her way to Salem early next year! 💙⏳,” the caption read, alongside a photo of the soap star posing next to her name on a dressing room door.
Fans in the comments celebrated the exciting casting, with one writing, “Wooohooo! Welcome Sophia❤️”
“👏👏👏 Sasha is missed on GH but DAYS secured a good one,” wrote another.
Some even shared who they think Mattsson should play, with many suggesting she take over the role of Abby Dimera amid speculation of the character’s revival.
In July, Mattsson exited General Hospital after eight years portraying Sasha Gilmore, who was later revealed to be the secret daughter of Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) and Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers, who died in August 2025).
In her final episode, Sasha left Port Charles to protect her newborn daughter, Daisy, whom she shares with Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson).

She confirmed her departure on social media at the time, although she hinted at a possible return in the future.
“Yes, it’s true, Sasha Gilmore has left Port Charles! (For now 😜),” she captioned the post, which featured several images of her time on the show. “General Hospital has become my second home these past years and I am so grateful for my time there.”
“And I feel so lucky to have experienced the love and support all the wonderful GH fans have to give - you guys truly are THE BEST! ❤️,” she concluded. “I hope Sasha will make her way back to her friends and family, but for now it’s time for her to take a break from all the drama, and for me to continue my acting journey in some new exciting projects! 🎬💫”

That month, Mattsson also told TV Insider in an interview that she wasn’t closing the door on daytime television for good.
“I’d have to see what the role was, but I’m definitely not opposed to coming back to the soap world,” she said. “I think being on a soap is one of the best jobs you can have as an actress.”
She added: “I have some exciting new projects in the works, so I hope to see everyone through another screen soon!”
