Maya Hawke’s younger brother, Levon Hawke, shares her love of acting and music.
Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman welcomed Maya on July 8, 1998, and Levon on Jan. 15, 2002. Maya and Levon also have two half-sisters, Clementine Jane Hawke and Indiana Hawke, who Ethan shares with his current wife, Ryan Shawhughes Hawke.
Levon is following in the footsteps of his parents and Maya, pursuing acting, writing, directing and music. He made his feature film debut in the 2024 Zoë Kravitz-directed film Blink Twice, and he made his directorial debut the same year with his original play, Picture Day. In December 2025, he appeared in Timothée Chalamet's Marty Supreme.
Maya is supportive of Levon’s projects and praised his play on Instagram. In an October 2024 post, the Stranger Things star shared a photo of herself and her brother, and captioned it: “My brothers play ‘ picture day ‘ at coffee street studio’s was incredible. The play! The cast! The space ! All amazing. So blown away.”
She and Levon share a close sibling bond and have worked together on the 2023 film Wildcat, and on music, including Maya’s Chaos Angel track, “Missing Out.”

According to Ethan’s November 2015 interview with The Times, Levon was named after Levon Helm from the rock group, The Band.
Helm “remains a musical hero” to Ethan, per the outlet. The musician-inspired name turned out to be fitting, as Levon enjoys making music; he plays guitar, sings and writes songs.
He studied philosophy at Brown University

Levon studied philosophy at Brown, per The New Yorker. In April 2024, Maya told the magazine that two years prior, she’d spent a few weeks staying with her brother on the Rhode Island campus. She spent time on the quad, attended a few seminars and realized she wasn’t jealous of the college experience.
“That healed me,” Maya said. “It made me see what I actually like about my own life.”
In addition to studying philosophy, Levon explored his love of theater at Brown. According to the University’s website, he was involved in a play titled The Thin Place, which was performed in December 2023.

Levon made his feature film debut in the 2024 thriller Blink Twice, which was directed by Kravitz and stars Channing Tatum. Maya’s brother played Lucas, a young man who’s invited to the private island.
In August 2024, he posted an Instagram carousel with photos and videos from filming. The actor shared shots of him and Tatum, a clip of a cast jam session and a mirror selfie from his makeup chair. “This is my first movie!” Levon wrote in his caption. “Truly had some of the most amazing and moving times of my life with this incredible group of people. Here are some of the times.”
In addition to Blink Twice, Levon has landed roles in the Apple TV series The Crowded Room, and in the 2024 western film, The Thicket. He also played a convict in the 2023 movie, Wildcat, which was directed by Ethan and stars Maya.
“We all have a deep passion for the arts, and it seemed appropriate to ask for his help,” Ethan said about working with his son on Wildcat during a May 2024 interview with eTalk. “He’s gonna be a formidable presence whatever he decides to do.”
In December 2025, Levon added another experience to his résumé with the Josh Safdie-directed Marty Supreme.

In addition to acting, Levon is a writer and director. Maya’s brother wrote and directed Picture Day, a play presented by Quick & Dirty Theatre Company that ran from Sept. 20 to Oct. 6, 2024.
The official synopsis reads: “Set in a mundane afternoon in a shared living room, the play follows five roommates as they navigate pseudo-family dramas, sexuality, identity and the complexities of modern male friendships.”
In October 2024, a source told PEOPLE that Levon was “so passionate, dedicated and hands-on” throughout the play’s run. They noted that he “always arrived early each day and mingled with guests before and after the show” and added, “He truly enjoyed the whole experience and was very proud of what they accomplished.”
Ethan and Uma went to see Picture Day, and Maya contributed a poster for the show. Levon’s Blink Twice collaborators, Tatum and Kravitz, also showed their support by attending the play.
Levon was an extra on Stranger Things season 4 because of strict COVID-19 policies
After Levon was photographed on the Stranger Things set with Joe Keery, Maya confirmed that her brother was an extra on season 4 of the show.
“He came to visit me,” she explained to Radio Times in November 2021. “The COVID policies were really intense, as they should be, so the only way he could come to set was if he was dressed as an extra and did COVID testing.”
Maya rejected the “Nepotism strikes again” comments following those photos of her brother on set. She clarified, “He’s not in the show, but you may potentially see him once, in one shot. So, calm down, internet!”

Levon seems to share his mother’s interest in fashion. In January 2020, he and Uma attended the Dior Spring 2020 haute couture show in Paris together. After the event, Levon shared photos of himself and his mom and a clip of the show on Instagram. "Mama and mi in Paris,” he captioned the post.
In August 2023, Levon notably appeared in a fashion campaign for the French luxury fashion house, Celine, as part of Hedi Slimane's Portrait of an Actor series. In the black and white photos, he can be seen wearing pieces from the Celine Essentials Collection.

Levon’s credited as a co-writer on some of his sister’s music. He assisted on the songs, “Missing Out” and “Black Ice,” for her 2024 album, Chaos Angel, and he also wrote “Kamikaze Comic” with Maya for her 2024 EP, Clipped Wings.
During a June 2024 interview with Nylon, Maya shared that “Missing Out” was inspired by hanging out with her brother and his college friends. At the time, Maya and Levon had to put out a brushfire near their house, and that’s when they thought of the lyric: “Well I was left like coals in leaves.”
“My brother and I started riffing that pre-chorus over, and I combined it with, ‘Now I know it's me who’s missing out,’ ” Maya remembered. She said it was a “really exciting moment” when they cracked the song together.
Maya and Levon also perform together. In January 2022, Levon shared an Instagram video of him and his sister singing together on a stage. “So damn fun, big thanks to all who came,” he captioned the post.
Levon gets acting advice from Ethan
While chatting with Jason Delgado at The Thicket premiere in September 2024, Levon shared some acting advice he’d gotten from his famous father.
“He always has a pretty serious mantra, which is: Breathe and make contact,” Levon said. He added that Ethan believes that practice is “the secret to acting.”
Levon recalled that whenever he was nervous about an important scene, Ethan would say: “If you’re breathing and you’re looking at your scene partner, it can really only go so wrong.”
