On the Nov. 7 episode of Owen Thiele's podcast In Your Dreams, Alex Cooper joked that Taylor Swift was her “sexual awakening for women”

The influencer explained that she used to romanticize “guys hating me” because it meant she could relate to Swift’s music

Cooper previously told PEOPLE that the pop superstar was one of her dream podcast guests

Alex Cooper is unpacking her decades-long love for Taylor Swift.

On the Nov. 7 episode of influencer and actor Owen Thiele's podcast In Your Dreams, Cooper — who was on as a guest — took notice of a poster of Swift’s sophomore album Fearless in the background of the podcast studio and had to bring it up.

“I can’t stop staring and looking at the Fearless album behind your head,” began the Call Her Daddy host, 31. “Those songs changed my life. Like, Fearless was my era of girlhood where I was really starting to like boys—”

“Before you liked girls?” Thiele, 29, cut in jokingly.

“We’re getting there,” replied Cooper. “I just really found that I was such a loser and [Swift] was my connector of like, ‘He doesn’t love me.’ But I almost romanticized guys hating me at one point — like I thought it was cool that they were turning me down because then I had Taylor to listen to.”

“You were in love with Taylor,” Thiele responded. “Taylor got you through it.”

“Yeah, she was my sexual awakening for women,” joked Cooper. “Sorry, Taylor, that’s weird.”

Cooper later clarified that her primary romantic experience with a woman was in high school, when she made out with a girl “to turn the boys on” — “which was so pick-me and disgusting,” she admitted.

“It’s so sad that, when you’re in high school, that’s all that matters — the male validation, gay or straight. And I was obsessed with these boys and I wanted them to think that it was hot and she wanted them to think it was hot.”

Cooper has previously expressed her admiration for the “Cruel Summer” singer.

In an interview with PEOPLE last year, when asked about her dream podcast guest, the influencer named Swift as one of two women at the top of her list.

"Oh my God, I would say two people — either Ms. Taylor Swift or Rihanna. Period,” she said. "I feel like those two women have built such incredible empires and I respect both of them so much, and I would be honored to sit down with either of them.”

Later in the Nov. 7 episode — which was evidently taped before Swift released her latest album The Life of a Showgirl — when Thiele asked, “Who’s your pop girl?,” Cooper instantly brought up the pop superstar again.

“I think I’m mentally preparing myself, because I’m still in Tortured Poets,” Cooper said of the new album. “I’m ready for whatever this is going to be.”
